What is the level cap in Disgaea Mayhem?
Level 9,999, the standard cap for the series. Reincarnation does not raise it — and levels contribute very little to your stats here, so reaching the cap matters mainly because it makes reincarnation free.

Disgaea Mayhem reincarnation guide: the level cap is 9,999, Infinite Reincarnation caps at +100%, and the free loop that banks 100 reincarnations.
Free reincarnation loops, Infinite Reincarnation, and the Character World route.

The level cap in Disgaea Mayhem is 9,999; reincarnation resets you to level 1 at the Dark Chocolate Assembly for bonus growth and a counter that feeds Infinite Reincarnation. This page covers the free loop and when levels actually matter.

Levels in this game are a gate rather than a power curve. Reaching the cap unlocks the free reincarnation loop and lets you stop thinking about EXP forever, but the levels themselves contribute very little to your damage.
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Maximum character level | 9,999 |
| Does reincarnation raise the cap? | No — it resets your level and grants growth bonuses |
| Maximum item level | 999 for weapons and armour |
| Carnage stat caps | 10,000,000 attack · 10,000,000 defence · 1,000,000,000 HP |
| Weapon mastery cap | 100 per weapon class (there is no armour mastery) |
| Fastest route to the cap | A deep Item World dive with the Cheat Shop EXP slider maxed |
With the Cheat Shop EXP multiplier at maximum and a high-rank item to dive into, a single partial run can pay out EXP in the trillions — enough to take a freshly reincarnated character from level 1 back to 9,999 in one fight. That is why re-levelling is not the cost people assume it is: the cost of a reincarnation is the mana, and the mana can be free.
Reincarnation lives in the Assembly menu alongside the bill list. Selecting it shows your current mana cost, your maximum level, and the class or tier you are reincarnating into. Confirm, and you drop to level 1 with bonus points to distribute across your stats.
| What reincarnation touches | What it leaves alone |
|---|---|
| Your character level (resets to 1) | Your equipment and its item levels |
| Your stat distribution (you re-spend bonus points) | Innocents riding on your gear |
| Your total reincarnation counter (+1) | Character World evilities you have unlocked |
| Your mana balance | Weapon mastery levels |
| Nothing about the level cap | Carnage stat transfers you have banked |
Because attack, defence and HP all have hard Carnage caps, the sensible distribution changes as you progress. Early on, spread points toward whatever is holding your clear speed back. Late, once attack is already capped by Carnage stat transfers, push HP and defence instead — there is no benefit to feeding a stat that is already sitting on its ceiling.
Nothing you built in the Item World is at risk. Item levels, rarity, population, Innocents and rank all survive reincarnation intact, which is exactly why re-levelling is fast: you are level 1 holding endgame equipment.
This is the mechanic worth knowing about, and it is not a bug — it is how the numbers shake out. At maximum level the mana cost displayed on the reincarnation screen can read zero. Reincarnate, and your counter goes up by one. You are now level 1, and the mana cost of reincarnating *again* is only the mana price shown at your new level.

+100% attack and defence is a doubling of two of your three main stats, applied on top of gear, evilities and Carnage transfers. Getting there through normal play means reincarnating a hundred times across a whole playthrough, which nobody does incidentally. Getting there through the loop is a short, boring, entirely optional session — and it is the single cheapest large stat gain available before you start the Carnage stages.
If you are still working through the campaign, skip it. Reincarnation counters do nothing until you have Infinite Reincarnation, which comes from the Super Overlord tier of the Character World — content you will not reach until the post-game. Read the beginner guide instead and spend the time on gear.
Almost every evility N.A. has access to comes from the Character World, not from levelling. Only a handful matter, and once you have them you never take them off.
| Evility | Effect | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Infinite Reincarnation | +1% ATK and DEF per reincarnation, capped at **+100%** | Super Overlord tier |
| Equipment Adaptation | +20% equipment stats — multiplies your whole gear grind | Character World |
| Fatal Strike | +30% critical damage — pairs with Critical Damager Innocents | Character World |
| Big Game Eater | +30% damage to bosses | Levelling N.A. |
| Cold Blessing | Elemental damage boost | Character World |
| Mercenary's Pride | Starting perk — no reason to unequip it early | Default |
Completing the Super Overlord class of the Character World is both where Infinite Reincarnation comes from and one of the three requirements for unlocking Carnage mode. The other two are clearing the Postlude stages and owning a rank 40 item. Bill costs for both gates are on the Assembly page.
Infinite Reincarnation is percentage-based, so it scales with everything else rather than adding a flat number. Stack it with Equipment Adaptation on top of a 700-plus item level weapon and Critical Damager Innocents at 99% critical, and you get the "min-maxed builds dealing enormous damage" the marketing promises. See builds for the full stack.
Since the evilities that make reincarnation matter all live in the Character World, it is worth knowing that the intended dungeon crawl can be almost entirely skipped. The Character World is a board you move across with limited energy, and two specific familiars break it open.
With Blue World active, most tiles stop being fights, so a Super Overlord run finishes in about a minute and you can expect a forced fight only once every three or four runs. The method works identically at every tier, from Prinny up through the Carnage tiers — the only difference is that the final tiers need all three Enrages to keep the energy topped up.
Evilities, extra evility slots, stat gains, and guaranteed weapon mastery levels — up to 100 at the highest tier, which is what makes mastering every weapon class roughly a twenty-minute job. Mastery raises the stats your weapon contributes, so it compounds directly with your Item World gear work.
Both are early-stage captures — Mushrooms appear from stage 1 and Water Sprites from stage 3 onward, and Free Play can hand you both from a single stage that lists them. Capture rules and the full rank-3 stage table are on the change character page.
This is the part that catches series veterans. Reaching 9,999 in a mainline Disgaea is a genuine power spike. In Disgaea Mayhem it is mostly an unlock. Your real numbers come from five other places, and reincarnation only touches two of them.
| Stat source | Share of your power | Reincarnation affects it? |
|---|---|---|
| Equipment and item levels | The bulk of everything | No — gear survives untouched |
| Carnage stat transfers | Up to 10M/10M/1B | No — banked permanently |
| Character World evilities | Large percentage multipliers | Indirectly — Infinite Reincarnation lives here |
| Weapon mastery | Raises what your weapon contributes | No |
| Reincarnation counter | Up to +100% ATK and DEF | Yes — this is the point |
| Character levels | Almost nothing on their own | Reset to 1 each time |
Reincarnation is not just for N.A. Familiars reincarnate too, and for them it is the only way to collect rank-locked evilities. This is a separate reason to visit the Assembly, and it is the more urgent one during the campaign.
| Who | What reincarnation gives them | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Bonus stat growth and +1 to the reincarnation counter | Free at max level | |
| Familiar at rank 1 | That class's rank-1 unique evility | Must be done at rank 1 specifically |
| Familiar at rank 2 | That class's rank-2 unique evility | Requires the rank-2 unlock |
| Familiar at rank 3 | That class's rank-3 unique evility | Requires a rank-3 capture |
| Any familiar, any rank | 3 shared class evilities from levelling | Rank is irrelevant for these |
Capturing at rank 3 gives you ranks 1 and 2 for free, but reincarnating at rank 3 only grants the rank-3 evility. Collecting all three perks from one class means three separate reincarnations at three different ranks. The Buddy Base bill list includes a dedicated Reincarnate Battle Buddy proposal for exactly this — see Magichange.
Uncharted Waters from the moth family for mystery rooms, Incognito from birds so enemies stop killing your familiar, Self Sacrifice and Treasure Hunter from the spirit line, and Super Magic Booster from Lilith at rank 3. Those five cover almost every situation; the rest of the collection is a completionist goal.
Reincarnation is a post-campaign tool wearing an early-game menu entry. Doing it at the wrong time is not catastrophic, but it wastes mana you need elsewhere.
| Situation | Reincarnate? |
|---|---|
| Mid-campaign, no Character World access | No — the counter does nothing yet |
| You want a familiar’s rank evility | Yes — that is the one early reason |
| Saving mana for the 100,000-mana Postlude bill | No — mana comes first |
| At max level with a 0 mana cost | Yes — bank reincarnations freely |
| You have Infinite Reincarnation and under 100 reincarnations | Yes — run the loop to the cap |
| Already past +100% on the evility | No — the bonus stops there |
Level 9,999, the standard cap for the series. Reincarnation does not raise it — and levels contribute very little to your stats here, so reaching the cap matters mainly because it makes reincarnation free.
It resets you to level 1 in exchange for bonus stat growth you distribute yourself, and it adds one to your total reincarnation counter. The counter is what the Infinite Reincarnation evility reads.
Mana, and the cost scales with your level — at maximum level it can drop to zero. That is what makes repeated reincarnation practical rather than expensive.
It grants +1% attack and defence for every reincarnation on your counter, capped at +100%. Reaching the cap effectively doubles both stats, and it comes from the Super Overlord tier of the Character World.
Around 100 times, because that is where Infinite Reincarnation stops paying out. Once the mana cost hits zero at max level you can bank those quickly, and going beyond the cap achieves nothing.
No. Item levels, rarity, Innocents, rank and weapon mastery all survive. Only your character level and stat distribution reset — see the Item World page for what you keep.
At the Dark Chocolate Assembly, alongside the bill list. There is no separate reincarnation facility in this game.
Yes, and you should. Reincarnating a familiar at a specific rank is the only way to obtain that rank's unique evility, and reincarnating at rank 3 does not grant the rank-1 and rank-2 versions. See Magichange.
